How to Recover from Grief
Published in Paperback by Judson Pr (May, 1996)
Authors: Richard Lewis Detrich and Nicola J. Steele
Average review score:

Why We Wrote This Book
My wife and I wrote this book for three reasons: (1) To provide you with information about the process of grief, knowing that if you understand what's happening you'll be less fearful and better able to work through your grief; (2) To provide you with support as you go through the grief process, assuring you it's OK to grieve, it's OK to take your time (it takes as long as it takes), and assuring you that what you're going through is probably perfectly normal for someone who's grieving; (3) To provide a catalyst for your growth, because although it's horribly painful, you can grow through this process and, even if you don't believe it now, you do have a future.

This isn't pretentious. It's easy to read and a convenient book to mark up. You don't have to digest it all in one gulp! At first, when your grief is raw, you may only be able to deal with the quotes in the margins, but the time will come, down the road, when you are ready to come back and read more.

We're grateful that this book has helped many people through their grief, and we hope it can help you. Grief is hard, painful work! Your whole world has turned upside down. Nothing makes sense any more. You feel alone and confused. You think your feelings and emotions are out of control. You wonder at times if you are losing your mind. This book is for you!

Humble Feelings: Inspirational Wisdom from C.S. Lewis, Rich Mullins, and Others
Published in Hardcover by WinePress Publishing (20 February, 2002)
Author: Andrew Kalitka
Average review score:

more than a coffe table collection....
"Humble Feelings" is more than a coffe table collection of pictures and devotions; it is an inspired journey that unites us "with the beauty we see." Each photograph and selection are balanced, as if intended by both the writer and photographer. I was recently given "Humble Feelings" as a gift because of my love of nature and the writings of C.S Lewis. "Humble Feelings" draws me once again to both.

I Loved Rogues
Published in Hardcover by Superior Pub Co (January, 1979)
Author: George Washington, Lewis
Average review score:

Drama, nostalgia, Americana and real-life!
"Slim" Lewis loved the "bad boys" of the zoo and circus: the elephants that no one else could handle, the most dangerous and unpredicatable creatures in captivity. Elephants are uncanny animals, sometimes gentle and compassionate, sometimes dangerous and cunning; very like humans in ways good AND bad. Circus life can be brutal to humans and non-humans alike. But even so, most animal handlers like Mr. Lewis truly cared for (yes, loved) their charges (hence the decision to work with them in the first place). As a former zoo keeper myself, and having worked with Asian Elephants in a limited capacity, I find this book refreshingly honest and insightful. My (ex) husband (and former zoo keeper as well) had met Mr. Lewis at a zoo keepers conference and had his treasured copy of this book signed by him. What a piece of history this book is! You will be drawn instantly into a captivating auto-biographical memoir full of nostalgia, lore, Americana, and adventure. Parts will amuse you, parts will shock you, and parts will make you cry. This is REAL experience from a pro elephant trainer. His perspectives are often brutally honest and heartfelt. His love of Elephants is undeniable. Even if you have no interest in the circus or in elephants, the wealth of history here makes compelling reading. The photos alone are priceless. My hope is that this book (an enhanced and expanded version of the earlier "Elephant Tramp") will be published again and remain in print for years to come. You will want to share this book with your friends. In fact, I have just ordered my own copy to replace the one I left behind.

I'll Always Be Your Friend
Published in Paperback by HarperTrophy (June, 2004)
Authors: Sam McBratney and Kim Lewis
Average review score:

Great for moms and their kids
This book is a great bedtime (or anytime) book for moms to read to their kids. I think all children can relate to not wanting to stop playing to go to bed. The mother fox is patient and loving in her insistence that they settle down for the night. The illustrations are so cute, my 3 year old daughter keeps petting the baby fox. I recommend this book to anyone with children, as it reinforces the idea of undying and unconditional love. A+

Illuminations: An Interweave of Thought, Identity, and Love
Published in Hardcover by Langmarc Pub (December, 1992)
Authors: Daphne M. Lewis, Joyce Sonnabend, and Wynne Lou Ferguson
Average review score:

Contemporary poetry at its best
The poetry of Daphne Lewis took my breath away. I found myself so entranced by her language choices and lyrical manner of expression that I only came to consider the actual meaning of the poetry on a second or third time through. I have owned this book now for some years and I find that it has many levels, the poems having a completely different significance when I first read them than they have now. A remarkably brave and intelligent collection.

Jose Limon's work comes alive
This book really shows the incredible skill of Jose Limon. I am a dancer and I really enjoyed this book because it clearly showed the technique of Jose Limon. I would suggest this book to any dancer because it really gives you new perspective on some types of movement. This book really made Limon's technique and movement come alive.
